After months of checking items off my punch list, and checking Realtor.com five times a day for new listings, we found our new house. The whole house is one big, bland, "before" picture, with builder-grade fixtures and finishes, stained, dented walls, and popped drywall seams. But with a some imagination and TLC, I think it has great potential for our family.
Inspection is tomorrow, then 28 days of decluttering, final touch-up painting, outdoor spruce-ups (Spring, finally!) in our current house and putting together the project plan for the new house. Once we close, the plan is to move all of our excess stuff over to the new garage so we can effectively stage our current house for sale. Our excellent broker has a stager we can call in if we need to, but I'd like to try my hand and see if I can make our home as compelling and bland as it needs to be. If not, we can always call in the pros.
I'll use the time while our current house is on the market to execute against our project plan, with my first priority being finished rooms for each of the kids. My oldest has selected a bedroom in the basement, so I'm especially intrigued by the challenge to create something that feels comfortable and inviting as opposed to stale and basement-y. My Houzz ideabooks are overflowing with inspiration.
In the meantime, I want to commemorate some of the work we did in our current home and dig out some before and after pictures from past projects.
