Powder Room

I finally have some new renovation photos to share!

Here’s the powder room before:

I haven't looked at these in a while.  It's fun to see the before and after!

Here’s a detail of the toilet paper holder.  The previous owner glued a piece of mosaic tile on the wall to cover up a tennis-ball-sized hole.  Classy.

Here's the powder room now:

As I mentioned in a prior post, I moved the doorway around the corner from its original location in order to reorient the entrance away from the laundry and drop zone areas.  It now opens off of the foyer.  I like that the door no longer opens into the mirror.

The floor is now tiled in a gray 12” x 24” porcelain that we also used in the laundry, drop zone, and kitchen.  The walls are painted the same creamy gray (Nimbus by Benjamin Moore) that we used for the rest of the first floor.  Taking a page from Joanna Gaines, I introduced texture by installing tongue-and-groove planks horizontally along the back wall.  This is a feature I plan to repeat in some other areas of the house in order to tie things together.  The sink, toilet, mirror, and table are all new.  The table was actually my inspiration piece for the project.  It reminded me of one of my favorite paintings by an artist we really like, Corinne Smith.  The painting and the table, combined with the planking, gave me the rustic-meets-modern look I was going for.

I also had some fun with plumbing pipes, which I’ve also used in a few other places in the house.  You can see the towel bar in the second photo, and here's the TP holder I made:

Things are coming along on the first floor.  More to come soon!
