Life is like a box of chocolates...

We closed on the new house on May 28.

One lesson I learned the hard way is, really make sure you know what's in the house, and if it's supposed to be removed, make sure that happens.  If you don't, you might get the unpleasant surprise we got when we found the entire garage attic full of stuff.  An expensive load to haul off!

Since closing we have focused on:
1) Lining up contractors to do work we lack the time and/or expertise to do with our move-in time frame.
2) Moving items  from our current house to our new basement so we could stage our current house for sale.
3) Demolition:  all trim and doors, all floors, all kitchen, laundry room, and basement cabinets.

So, I'm in the new house a few days after we close, taking measurements and making to do lists.  I look at the doorstop behind the basement door and figure I'll go ahead and remove it.  Here's what it looked like:

You can see the little nubbin under the lightswitch.  I thought it was one of those rubber stopper things set in a metal frame that kept the doorknob from damaging the wall.  It was painted over, and when I used my knife to score the paint so the wallboard didn't tear, this is what I found:

A Coke can.  I kid you not.  We have our work cut out for us!
